(1995) Drama/Romance by Alfonso Arau. With Keanu Reeves.
FRIDAY - February 21st, at 5:00 pm

The movie, set in the vineyards of Northern California in the months right after World War II, tells the story of a young man and woman who meet at a time of crisis in both of their lives, who agree to pretend to be married, and who end up desperately in love just when the pretense is about to fail. The plot lovingly constructs one barrier after another to their happiness, so that we can rejoice as each one falls, only to be even more alarmed at the next. And it sets their story in a place of breathtaking beauty. The director is Alfonso Arau, the Mexican filmmaker with "Like Water for Chocolate." English.

(2017) DocumentaryBiography with Ted Allan, Luke Barr, Daniel Boulud
SATURDAY - February 22nd, at 12:00 noon

This documentary tells the story of the Portland, Oregon native, who had the first cooking show on television (1945); who was the author of 22 cookbooks along with a syndicated newspaper column and countless magazine pieces; and who ran an acclaimed cooking school out of his townhouse in New York City. James Beard introduced Julia Child to New York, boosting her place as a culinary grande dame. Child in turn once said, “I may have brought French cooking to America, but Jim brought American cooking to America.” He was a pioneer of the farm-to-table movement. The film weaves the biography of the man the New York Times deemed “the Dean of American Cookery” while painting a gastronomic family tree. English.
